Introduction
Documentation in the child welfare case planning process provides accountability for both casework activities and outcomes established by the agency. In this lesson, you will learn the purpose of documentation as well as components of quality documentation.
Prior to beginning this lesson you will need to read the OCFS Case Management Documentation Policy.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the need for accurate, concise, and unbiased documentation throughout the casework process.
- Understand the relevant agency policies regarding documentation and where to find detailed policy information.
- Objectively, accurately, and concisely document a case note using a case study scenario.

Follow Up
This online lesson will be followed up with classroom discussion and skills application. The skills application portion will include viewing a short video in class and recording your observations in a narrative log. Your narrative log will be reviewed by a trainer and assessed for content, accuracy, objectivity, spelling, and syntax. The information contained in this lesson and the skills application exercise will be part of the high-stakes testing process.
